On January 15, the governments of the United States and Canada implemented strict regulations for motor transport drivers to cross between the two countries, which caused great discontent in Canadians, which led to large protests against this new law.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau determined that as of the aforementioned date, unvaccinated Canadian drivers will have to comply with the requirements of previous COVID-19 tests as well as comply with mandatory quarantine.
As for the United States, Joe Biden decreed as a mandatory requirement that drivers from both countries, Canada and Mexico, have their complete vaccination schedule.
In addition, the entry of foreign truck drivers to these countries will be restricted if they do not comply with their full vaccination.
All these regulations unleashed important protests in the capital of Canada by the drivers as well as the support of many citizens, the movement called “FREEDOM CONVOY” keeps the city paralyzed with this protest march, based on the freedom of decision-making in regarding said vaccination.
And the question is… How will all this event strongly affect the transportation sector and the supply chain?
It is well known that the lack of drivers in Mexico is already an important and sensitive issue, and adding this event, a series of problems will be unleashed, starting by worsening the lack of drivers in our neighboring countries, which will cause inflation in costs as well as, even more scarcity of drivers here in Mexico.
This will be a delicate issue at all stages of the supply chain, since it would hinder E-commerce logistics, production processes, as well as other important processes and industries with a strong economic impact on our country.
